Obviously I have upgraded the website to include the new look and a number of new features. If you are interested, the new features this page now has are as follows:

Some site rearranging

I’m right now in the process of changing how this site acts I guess. What I want to do is make it a little more professional looking. I feel it is too plain right now and I want to change that. One thing I want to start doing is incorporating more multimedia in posts to kind of break it up. I want to widen the page a bit so it isn’t as narrow, change adds so there are some in the main body, and ads that aren’t the same on every page (so some pages would be in the body, some would be in the side, and some wouldn’t have any). I want to better incorporate some of these other tools I am using like Twitter, which I like but i think is kind of ugly as it is. I feel that I should be better incorporating other blog indexes and also better suiting my site for search engines to pick up what’s important better. I want to change the header to be more graphic, have fewer categories listed. Show less of a post on the front page (currently, I put up the entire post on the front page, I would like to make it so that only the first paragraph or two shows so that people can skim through what I’ve been posting better).

A few changes

You may have noticed something new in the sidebar. I joined up with twitter because I think it is a cool idea, and it is complimentary to my blog anyway. I plan on adding new twitter posts via my mobile phone from time to time to update what I’m up to while I’m away from the computer.

That isn’t the only change though. I’m also now trying out posting on a new firefox add on called scribefire which allows me to make posts without visiting the sites. This is to just make it easier for me to make posts on the site and at the very least is kind of interesting to do.

On the underbelly, I’ve updated my theme to work with wordpress 2.5. So if you were having problems accessing parts of the site before, this should be fixed. I’m also looking into a few more features to really fill out the site. But hopefully everyone enjoys these additions at the very least.

Updated and rarin

Over the past several days I’ve been trying to get some updates to my Wordpress installation in place and having issues with the final update to Wordpress 2.5. If anyone has had issues I apologize however it was unavoidable. Now it seems all to be working fine. Many of the new features and looks are quite nice. Some things are still not working quite properly and many of the tools that I use for the site have still not been updated. Hopefully this can change in the upcoming week and this site can be back to what it used to be. In the meantime enjoy the free time on the advertisements. I’m going to try to get them back into place tomorrow.

Small Site Tweaks

Some may have noticed the icons on the bottom of every post that I added a week or two ago. This is for various social sites to make it easy to add a post to them. There originally were far too many and I got those narrowed down to about a dozen which should make it just a single row of icons per post. If anyone has any in particular they’d like to see added or removed, feel free to tell me.

I also added a few plugins that help me manage, as well as one that will give categories icons, I just haven’t added any pictures in yet but I’m very excited about this idea.

Couple more new things

Over the last few days I worked on adding some more features. Of course I added another google skyscraper add to the very bottom of the right column, this one will always be at the bottom, and will only appear on the front page, search pages, and archives. The next addition I’ve done is that the site will now submit to blog update guides so if you go to another site that posts blog updates, you should hopefully see mine there. Lastly, on select posts, I will putting a Digg link. I chose a compact version of it, and will only be placing it on the more interesting of my posts from here out. (For instance, this particular post does not have it,  if you wish to see an example of what it should look like, go back a few posts to the New Raiding Guild post). This feature is a work in progress as I try to make it easier for me to put it in, right now there isn’t an entirely easy way to do it, so hopefully we will find a solution soon.

Continued Move…

If you haven’t noticed, over the last day I’ve had technical difficulties that have essentially shut the site down. This isn’t entirely surprising considering the move, but frustrating none the less. I did get the site transfered to my own server as I mentioned. One thing that I’ve noticed from moving is that some features are no longer available such as the use of the profile picture in comments, which kind of sucks cause I liked those. However, this allows me to do a bit more Over the next few days I’m going to look for some other plugins to download and install, so if anyone has requests, i’m listening.

Website move

Over the next few days I will be moving this website off of Wordpress.com and onto my own server. I hate to say it but the reason for this is largely monetary, not that free isn’t bad compared to pay, but i’m already paying elsewhere and I need to start earning revenue and this site is one of many which will aid via google. I will be trying to limit the amount of advertising on each page to just one panel on the side and link panel on the bottom of the page (with a second possible panel being added to archives & search results). On the bright side, the bar for wordpress.com will no longer be on the top of the site when the move happens. I’m still trying to find a good way to use wordpress’s  global dashboard/username system so if there are any tricks to this, I’d like to hear them!

Side note

As a side note for my site today… I had totally forgotten about my colour for this week and because of that wrote the previous post. I had then considered that I would work on it today, but instead have decided to put it off for a week as I try to get caught up in classes and get a paper that is due next Friday done today instead so that I can get started on another paper further out that is more important. I am starting to think I need more time than the last couple of days to write a paper just to ensure that I get a chance to proof read and make it better than average.

Camping

It has been a little while since I have post largely because I went camping last week with my daughter and haven’t had much time to do any posting.

We went to Governor Dodge which is about 45 minutes away from where we went. I had never been to Dodge before in my life, and I was amazed at this little park that really is quite close to the city. It is in a valley system with bluffs everywhere, a river goes through and there are a couple small dams that turn them into small lakes, a waterfall, a prairie land, a forest, and a bunch of campgrounds.
