Accidental New Computer

Kind of strange really, but as a tax return present to myself I decided I wanted to finally get my computer fixed after more than 5 months of not being able to use it. (I use my laptop on a day to day basis.) The motherboard had fritzed out (the third such ASUS motherboard which has died earlier than it should have) and so I decided to buy a new motherboard. While I was at it, I decided that RAM was cheap enough now a days that I could get an upgrade to it with a 4GB purchase. That’ll bring my RAM to 6GBs which should be plenty for at least a few years.

So I got my new motherboard, the [amazonify]B001AYZRVM::text::::MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum[/amazonify], and installed it into my case. Little surprise to me, it doesn’t seem to work. I’m not entirely sure what is wrong with it, I suspect that it is a bad power supply because the motherboard supposedly has lights that show that it has power and these aren’t lighting up. So I went and ordered a new power supply. Yes, this may have been the issue with the previous motherboard, but that motherboard had issues out of the box so I don’t necessarily mind getting a new motherboard anyway.

While I was there, I decided I really wanted to cover myself to make sure this thing worked and bought a new CPU as well. So with new RAM, Power, Motherboard and CPU I just bought almost a complete new computer in the last couple of weeks which is kind of odd considering that just a month and a half ago I had only $25 in the bank. My financial situation is in a much better place right now though and I feel that I can afford getting my computer back on track.

I hope at the very least these latest purchases do the trick because otherwise it likely is a bum motherboard that I’ll have to ship back which really sucks but at least newegg is fairly good about that sort of thing.
