Corn Fest ‘08

Every year Sun Prairie has an event dedicated to corn, rightly called the Corn Fest. Essentially you go, you eat corn, drink beer, and go on some carnival rides. It’s small but since I grew up in Sun Prairie, it is somehow nice to go back and do it every year if I can. Plus, the corn is somehow better than anything I can make on my own. Not sure what I’m doing wrong with corn but oh well.

The Olympics ‘08

I watched the opening ceremonies on Friday night and overall I gotta say it was fairly impressive. It was one of the more interesting ceremonies I’ve ever seen with the olympics and I’m glad that my daughter sat beside me and saw it as well because I think it was worth seeing. The one thing I was astonished by was my mother whom was also watching with us. It was a constant wash of bad comments from her on the state of China.

Tire Gauges Galore

John McCain recently released a tire gauge in conjunction with a small portion of something Obama said about energy conservation that among other things, Americans need to ensure that our tires are properly filled. McCain thought this was a terrific idea and thus has decided to throw his support behind Barack Obama and offer up these tire gauges with Obama inscriptions on the side of them.

Is Cuil Cool?

The new kid on the block that has been making a lot of headlines over the last week is the new search engine by some former Google employees called Cuil.com. The developers of this site are promising two main things with Cuil. They are promising more relavant searching as well as private searching. I’ve been messing with it for the last week and I thought I’d share my thoughts on this particular engine.

Urban Turbines

I read an article in the Wisconsin State Journal not long ago about how MGE is trying to install an Urban Turbine into McKee Farms to allow people to see what these things do. The idea of a smaller formed windmill that might not take as much space as the more traditional ones got me thinking as to their potential usage in this country.

Student Council and its Affects on Politics

I started to think about politics this morning, and in particular Student Council. The reason I started to think of it was largely George Bush. Sure we all know the jokes about him, we all know that he is a horrible president, and may even become known as one of the worst presidents in US, history. But the fact remains that he got elected twice. So how exactly did he get elected twice when he is so horrible that no one in their right minds would have actually voted for him once?

Travians

I decided to give Travians a go today, the new game made by the guys who did Trvian. For those that don’t know, Travian is a web-based strategy game. It is essentially an MMO version of Civ. You build your villages, build armies, get resources, and then start fighting other players in hopes of being able to make a world wonder in the end and win the game. With this game, I think the devs were hoping to use their popularity of the other game and give RPG players a little something to do.

Job Alternatives?

This morning on Good Morning America, they talked about two different things that employers are considering doing. These things were in seperate segments entirely, and I believe were done for different reasons as well, but I saw a lot of promise in them for the same reason. The segments were talking about the possibility of a four-day work week and working at home. What these two have in common? The possibility of lowering the amount of gas consumed.

McCain on Daily Show

I wish I could post a link of this interview, but unfortunately Viacom has been harsh on YouTube and thus Daily Show posts get pulled almost as fast as they get posted. However, if you saw this particular interview, it was worth the watch. Jon Stewart did an amazing job grilling McCain, and did a much better job at catching him on what he says far better than other media channels.

Social Websites

Over the weekend I have been looking around at a lot of social websites, largely due to the fact that I have really enjoyed Twitter. I have found a lot of good ones and bad ones, and a lot of cool uses for sites. I thought I would sum up some of the better social websites that I have found.
